Midwest CARP collaborated once again for its virtual workshop this past semester, taking place in December of 2020. Thirty participants came together for the weekend from three major midwestern chapters: Indiana University-Purdue University of Indianapolis (Indiana), Harper Community College (Illinois), and Grand Rapids Community College (Michigan). The theme of this workshop was “Ignite: Light the World,” with content emphasizing the God-given potential each person carries to create a positive impact for the world. Four young speakers—Nina Urbonya, Josue Kisile, Rosia Schmidt, and Grace Kellet—presented lectures on topics that dove deeper into God’s heart for humanity, His works throughout human history, and the inspirational life and international efforts of one of CARP’s founders, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon.

The first evening was filled with laughter as participants took part in icebreakers and team-building activities. A brief orientation was given at the start of the evening followed by activities and discussions, providing participants with the opportunity to connect with CARP members from across the Midwest.

The rest of the workshop consisted of informative talks, followed by group discussions and activities. Participants, like Diane Kelalu Hack (New York), expressed the impact given by these lectures. She stated,

“The presentations from Saturday on the root of sin and God’s purpose for us was vert clear and inspiring. I also love the last presentation on Mother [Moon]. It brought tears to my eyes to see how beautiful she loves and embraces the whole world without exceptions. No matter how different people are, she keeps loving and investing.”

Esa Amin (Illinois), also said “I loved hearing the speakers and being part of the discussion breakout groups.” He expressed that he appreciated sincerity of the speakers and how they “spoke directly from their heart.”

Many also found the activities to be impactful. Shinya Masuyama (Illinois) states “I was able to gain a lot from the activities, and it helped me self-reflect on my life and what I want to accomplish.”

After the presentations and the discussions, the days ended with Q&As. These gave the participants opportunities to explore the content and find clarity on the application of these CARP principles in our daily lives.

The workshop met its conclusion on a Sunday afternoon after a weekend filled with inspiration, connection, and newfound goals as everybody looked forward to the new year.
